A former Labour minister, who also served as a special forces colonel, has criticized Nigel Farage for opposing the deployment of troops to Ukraine. Al Carns, the Veterans’ minister and recipient of the Military Cross in 2011, emphasized the importance of supporting democracy beyond national borders for Britain’s security. Carns, a former Marine with experience in Afghanistan, warned that Farage’s stance benefits Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Recently, Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to potentially send troops to Ukraine upon reaching a peace deal. This move aims to safeguard Ukraine from future Russian aggression, with UK MPs set to vote on the matter.

Farage’s refusal to back sending troops to Ukraine drew sharp criticism from Carns, who stressed the significance of collective security and defending democratic values globally. Carns highlighted Farage’s lack of leadership and moral duty in the face of threats to democracy.

The UK, along with France, plans to establish military hubs in Ukraine and provide support for its defense. Additionally, Donald Trump’s envoy signaled US support for security guarantees to deter Russian aggression and protect Ukraine if necessary.

Starmer praised the unity of European and American allies in supporting peace efforts in Ukraine, acknowledging the challenging road ahead. Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov noted that the recent developments have unsettled Putin’s strategy.

Carns urged British citizens to recognize the critical moment for the country and emphasized the repercussions of ignoring threats to democracy. He also highlighted the conviction of a former Reform UK leader for promoting pro-Russian propaganda, linking it to Farage’s position on Ukraine.
