Ferrari has officially announced a new multi-year contract for their team principal, Frederic Vasseur. This confirmation follows a period of uncertainty regarding Vasseur’s future, spurred by reports from certain Italian media outlets suggesting potential changes in leadership within the Ferrari Formula 1 team.
The renowned red team had a successful 2024 season, finishing as the runner-up to McLaren in a closely contested final race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Despite this strong performance, Ferrari aimed to capitalize on their achievements and launch a renewed title challenge in the current season.
However, McLaren has emerged as the dominant force in the championship, leaving Ferrari and other competitors struggling to keep pace at the forefront of the grid, even with the addition of seven-time World champion Lewis Hamilton to the team.
Hamilton has faced challenges adapting to his new car, while Charles Leclerc has showcased remarkable talent despite being hindered by his vehicle’s limitations. Leclerc’s impressive five podium finishes this year have been considered exceptional given the constraints of his machinery.
Amid speculations in the Italian press about Vasseur’s future, Ferrari has put an end to uncertainties by extending his contract for several more years. The announcement was made ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, with Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, expressing confidence in Vasseur’s leadership and emphasizing their shared goals and responsibilities in pursuit of peak performance.
Vasseur, in response, expressed gratitude for Ferrari’s continued trust and viewed the contract renewal as both a validation of past achievements and a challenge to maintain progress and focus on delivering results. The decision to retain Vasseur pleased Ferrari’s drivers, who voiced their support for him and emphasized his pivotal role in the team’s success.
