A man has passed away following an incident where a tree fell on a caravan during Storm Goretti in Cornwall. The tragic event took place in the Mawgan area of Helston on Thursday evening, according to Devon and Cornwall Police. The storm brought strong winds reaching up to 99mph to the region.
The man, in his 50s, was found deceased inside the caravan, and his family has been notified. Authorities confirmed that his death is not considered suspicious. Emergency services responded to the scene promptly and worked to remove the tree safely.
The Met Office issued a rare red wind warning for parts of the South West on the same day, along with amber and yellow alerts for snow, ice, wind, and rain across the UK. Despite the warnings, conditions are expected to improve gradually, offering some relief on Saturday with intermittent sunny periods. However, northern areas and Wales may experience wintry showers and potential snowfall on higher ground.
Looking ahead, a new weather front is forecasted to approach from the west on Sunday, increasing the risk of disruptive snowfall in Scotland and northern England. The Met Office warns of 2-5cm snow accumulation in lower areas and up to 10-20cm on elevated terrain within the warning zones. Parts of central and southern England and Wales are likely to experience rain instead of snow on Sunday.
