A peaceful family dog walk turned tragic when two dogs were viciously attacked in a park in Pinjarra, south of Perth. The incident left one dog severely injured and ultimately had to be euthanized.
Marcus Norton was out with his Mastiff puppy, Chief, and an elderly Staffordshire terrier, Molly, when they encountered a stranger and his dog. Sadly, Molly and Chief were stabbed during the encounter. The daughter, Chevonne McNamara Norton, recounted the horrifying details of the attack, describing how Molly suffered severe injuries including a cracked skull and a punctured lung.
Despite their shock, the family rushed the injured dogs to the Waroona Veterinary Clinic for treatment. Veterinary surgeon Ashleigh Holgate determined that Molly’s injuries were too grave to be saved due to her age and additional complications.
Following the heartbreaking loss of Molly, Ms. McNamara Norton expressed her sorrow for losing her cherished childhood pet. Mr. Norton emphasized that Molly was harmless and that he was present to address any concerns if needed.
Chief, the other injured dog, is currently recuperating and is expected to heal over the next few weeks. Mr. Norton expressed frustration over the unexpected financial burden of over $5500 for Chief’s care and demanded accountability for the attack.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, suspecting that the stranger’s dog may have bitten Molly and Chief. They believe that a multi-use tool was used in the attack.
