A doctor who is married engaged in sexual activity with a nurse inside an operating theatre while a patient was under anesthesia, as stated in a medical tribunal. Dr. Suhail Anjum and the nurse, whose identity was not disclosed, were found in a compromising situation by a colleague at Tameside Hospital. The incident occurred when Dr. Anjum left the room during a procedure to have sex with the nurse in another operating theatre at the hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
According to Andrew Molloy, representing the General Medical Council, Dr. Anjum was the anaesthetist for several cases on a specific date and left the room during one of the cases. A nurse who entered the theatre unexpectedly witnessed the inappropriate behavior. Dr. Anjum later admitted to the facts of the case, acknowledging his actions and the potential risk they posed to the patient.
Dr. Anjum expressed remorse for his actions, attributing the incident to personal stress related to his family situation. He apologized for letting down his colleagues, the patient, and the hospital trust. Despite leaving the hospital and relocating to Pakistan, he expressed a desire to return to the UK and continue his medical career, vowing that such a lapse in judgment would not recur.
The hearing, which is ongoing in Manchester, will determine whether Dr. Anjum’s professional conduct has been compromised due to misconduct.
