Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia have progressed to the next round of the Cincinnati Open. They secured a victory against the fourth-seeded pair of Cristina Bucsa from Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the United States with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles event on Monday. The match lasted for one hour and 33 minutes.

This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. They are set to compete against the unseeded Czech partnership of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 16 scheduled for Tuesday.

In a separate match, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and her partner Sara Errani from Italy triumphed over Tamara Korpatsch from Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith in a match that lasted one hour and 29 minutes. The final score was 6-2, 7-6 (2) in favor of the Canadian-Italian duo.

Despite winning the first set in just 31 minutes, Korpatsch and Webley-Smith put up a fight in the second set, leading 6-5 and serving for the victory but ultimately falling short. Fernandez and Errani showcased a strong performance with two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of the 34 in the match. They are now gearing up to face Chan Hao-ching from Taiwan and Maya Joint from Australia in the Round of 16.

Fernandez, who exited the women’s singles event after being defeated by Xiyu Wang from China in the second round on Sunday, is now focused on her women’s doubles campaign.
