Conor McGregor has officially announced that he will not be participating in the upcoming UFC event at the White House.
Initially rumored to headline the event on June 14 against Michael Chandler on President Donald Trump’s front lawn, McGregor is now anticipated to make his return to the octagon in July. UFC CEO Dana White is set to reveal the details of the White House card soon, but McGregor’s name is expected to be missing from the lineup, with his comeback slated for July 11.
Speaking to Smash Cast, McGregor expressed his initial excitement about the White House matchup against Chandler, highlighting the anticipated showdown between their contrasting styles. However, plans shifted, and McGregor is now looking towards the International Fight Week event.
McGregor also disclosed that he will be returning to the cage in the welterweight division, citing his increased size and readiness for the challenge. Despite expressing willingness to face any opponent, McGregor acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his next fight and hoped for a favorable offer.
With McGregor out of the White House card, attention now turns to the potential headline bout featuring Jon Jones’ comeback against former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently vacated his 205lb title.
