An 11-year-old boy is currently in intensive care, bravely battling severe injuries sustained in a tram accident in south Manchester. Travis Ashe was hit by a Metrolink tram at the Crossacres stop on Brownley Road in Wythenshawe around 3:40 pm last Tuesday, resulting in life-altering harm. An extensive emergency response was initiated, involving an air ambulance, law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics who promptly transported Travis to the hospital. The tram station and surrounding road were cordoned off overnight to facilitate investigations.
Travis’ parents, Simon and Claire, provided an update on GoFundMe, mentioning that their son is still in intensive care, in a medically induced coma, and displaying remarkable resilience despite undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries. They expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from well-wishers and assured that they would acknowledge each message in due time.
The Cheshire North West Schoolboy Scramble Club is raising essential funds through an online fundraiser to aid Travis’ family during his hospitalization. Helen Reid, a family friend who initiated the campaign, emphasized the challenges ahead due to the severity of Travis’ injuries, stating that the motocross community, integral to Travis and his family, would offer support during this arduous journey.
To date, over £7,000 has been raised via GoFundMe, with contributions still being accepted online. Ongoing investigations are being conducted, with Transport for Greater Manchester collaborating with authorities to ascertain the circumstances of the incident. Greater Manchester Police has urged witnesses, especially those with video footage, to come forward and assist in the inquiry.
Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the police via the provided hotline or anonymously through Crimestoppers. The community is rallying together to support Travis and his family during this challenging period, exemplifying the strength of unity and solidarity in times of adversity.
