The Co-operative Bank plans to reduce operating hours at 40 branches starting next year. Some branches will experience cuts of up to three hours per week, with 18 branches closing for one day during the week.
For instance, the Brighton branch previously operated from 9am to 5pm on weekdays but will now open from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Similarly, the Caerphilly branch, currently open from 9am to 4pm, will adjust its hours to 10am to 2pm and will be closed on Wednesdays.
With 2.5 million customers, the Co-operative Bank announced on its website that the changes are a response to declining foot traffic at branches. The bank stated that more customers are opting for mobile, online, or telephone banking services.
Despite reduced weekday hours, branch teams will continue to assist customers through other channels. The bank assured customers that if their branch is closed on a weekday, the nearest branch will remain open.
