Dear Chancellor,

As you prepare to present the Budget, we have a crucial request – do everything within your authority to alleviate the financial strain on Mirror readers and households nationwide.

In recent years, the relentless surge in energy costs, escalating food prices, rising borrowing expenses, and other financial burdens have taken a toll on individuals and families. While there are signs of inflation stabilizing, the cumulative effect of multiple cost increases has been significant.

Acknowledging the challenging financial situation inherited from the previous government, ordinary citizens are eager to see tangible improvements in their monthly finances.

One effective method to provide immediate relief is to reduce energy bills, potentially by eliminating the 5% VAT rate and exploring further reductions in bill components.

Furthermore, fulfilling the commitment to ensure that the wealthiest individuals contribute their fair share of taxes is essential to address the growing wealth disparity in society.

Fostering economic growth is also paramount. By promoting growth, tax revenues increase, leading to more employment opportunities, higher wages, and overall economic stability. While tax adjustments may be necessary, it is crucial to target them prudently to avoid hindering economic progress.

Supporting economic growth can take various forms, including assisting struggling high streets and community pubs that serve as vital meeting places. Even modest funding injections can spark substantial and lasting transformations.

Despite skepticism, the current government has started making positive changes in people’s lives. While challenges persist, we urge you to focus on what can be achieved rather than dwelling on limitations.

Therefore, as you unveil the Budget, we implore you to prioritize actions that will enhance the lives of all individuals seeking assistance from the government.

Thank you.
