A 75-year-old British tourist tragically passed away after swimming in the sea at El Duque beach in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Lifeguards assisted the man when he was pulled from the water and went into cardiac arrest. Despite efforts by a doctor, nurse, and paramedics to revive him, the pensioner could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.
The deceased was identified as a British national who had recently turned 75. El Duque beach, known for its strong sea currents and holding a Blue Flag status, was the location of the incident. It remains unclear whether the man was alone or accompanied by others during the swim.
An autopsy scheduled in Santa Cruz was planned to determine the cause of death, whether it was due to drowning or a health-related issue. Authorities reported that the man suffered cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead after failed resuscitation attempts by emergency personnel.
Tenerife faced previous sea tragedies, including incidents where individuals were swept away by high waves, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The recent loss adds to the unfortunate events that have taken place along the island’s coastline in the past year.
