A British men’s clothing brand, known as Big Boys, specializing in plus-size clothing for men in sizes 2XL to 10XL, has gone out of business after entering administration. The company, operating under Great Clothing Ltd in Leeds, employed an average of 12 staff members in 2025.

Chris Brooksbank from CB Business Recovery Ltd has been appointed as the administrator for the company. A statement on the Big Boys website explained that despite efforts to address financial challenges, continuing operations became unviable. An insolvency practitioner will be appointed shortly to oversee the company’s affairs without personal liability.

In other retail news, River Island is closing at least 27 stores this month as part of a restructuring plan. Several branches, including those in Brighton, Edinburgh Princes Street, Great Yarmouth, and Stockton-on-Tees, have already shut down. Additionally, locations in Norwich, Norfolk, and Workington, Cumbria are on the closure list, with specific closure dates pending confirmation.

River Island is also reducing rents at 71 other stores as part of its restructuring efforts. The fashion chain had 223 stores across the UK and Ireland at the time of its rescue plan being reviewed in court earlier this year.

Poundland is also undergoing changes, closing 12 shops in January following approval from the High Court. The discount retailer had shut down 57 stores by September under a restructure plan after being acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1. Poundland, which had around 800 branches last summer, anticipates reducing its store count to 650-700 through closures and lease expirations.

As part of its transformation, Poundland is introducing a simplified pricing model of £1, £2, and £3 for most grocery items in its UK stores. Approximately 60% of items will be priced at £1, 20% at £2, and 20% at £3. The retailer has updated its website to focus on product browsing only, discontinuing online purchasing options.
