An inquiry has been launched following the discovery of a body part near a riverbank. Authorities in Montreal are working to identify the remains found near the Rivière des Prairies on Sunday. While police have not confirmed the exact body part, sources suggest it is the upper body “above the shoulders.”
The remains are believed to be of a man, and investigators are striving to establish his identity. The cause of death is still unknown, with suicide not being ruled out. This incident comes after the recent discovery of six severed heads in Mexico on a typically tranquil city street.
Local authorities found the severed heads early one Tuesday in an area not associated with cartel violence. The location where the heads were discovered connects the central states of Puebla and Tlaxcala. Authorities have yet to determine a motive for the killings or identify the criminal groups responsible for the act.
A message left at the crime scene on a blanket warned rival gangs and was purportedly signed by a group known as “La Barredora” or “the sweeper.” Despite the generally peaceful nature of Tlaxcala and Puebla, these states have faced issues related to criminal groups involved in trafficking activities due to their central geographical position.
Although Tlaxcala and Puebla have relatively low rates of intentional homicides nationally, they do experience challenges related to criminal activities such as human and drug trafficking and fuel theft. In recent years, Mexico has seen a significant increase in violence among cartels, leading to numerous casualties and disappearances following the government’s military actions against gangs in 2006.
