Prue Leith has revealed that she tends to shed weight while filming the popular show “Bake Off” by sticking to a unique diet of cake and wine. The 83-year-old judge, who took over from Mary Berry in 2017, admitted to gaining weight during the series two years later. To avoid a repeat, she now consumes only cake and wine while on set.
In a podcast interview in 2023, Prue shared that she exclusively eats cake during filming, emphasizing the richness of a single bite that combines filling, icing, and sponge. She mentioned skipping breakfast and lunch during this time, expressing occasional difficulty in limiting herself to just one teaspoon of cake compared to her co-judge Paul Hollywood’s restrained eating habits.
Despite temptations from her husband John, who tries to offer breakfast foods, Prue remains steadfast in her cake-only diet regimen, with wine being the only exception. She acknowledged the unconventional nature of her diet, describing it as a combination of cake and alcohol for several weeks, albeit acknowledging its indulgent appeal.
Speaking on the issues of obesity in the UK, particularly among children, Prue criticized weight loss injections like Ozempic, stating they detract from the enjoyment of life. She advocated for teaching people how to prepare and enjoy healthy food rather than relying on ongoing medication for weight management.
The NHS recommends a balanced diet and regular exercise for weight control and prescribes weight loss medication when necessary. Contrary to Prue’s diet approach, they do not endorse skipping nutritious meals in favor of less healthy options like cake, nor do they promote regular alcohol consumption for weight management.
