Android phone users are advised to promptly check for and install the latest software update as a new patch has been released. While not as critical as the previous month’s upgrade, experts recommend immediate installation to enhance device security.
According to Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf, the recent Android security bulletin does not report any actively exploited vulnerabilities. Nonetheless, he strongly encourages Android users to update their devices as the fixes mainly target the Android framework, a potential target for cybercriminals seeking elevated access.
Although this month’s Google updates do not include any “zero day” flaws, users are urged to stay vigilant and ensure their phones are up to date to mitigate potential risks. Outdated Android software versions leave devices vulnerable to attacks.
Jamf’s Boynton highlighted four vulnerabilities within the Android system component, potentially enabling unauthorized access to sensitive data or execution of arbitrary code. The release of the June security bulletin offers an opportunity to proactively address these issues before they are exploited.
Pixel phones are expected to receive the latest patch first, followed by manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, Sony, Xiaomi, and Honor. Major Android firms are extending support for older devices, with Samsung, Google, and Honor offering up to seven years of updates. Users with outdated phones may no longer receive security updates, necessitating consideration for upgrading to a newer supported model.
