An American woman who relocated to Wales has detailed the significant cultural differences she encountered shortly after settling in. Known as Tim Tam Travels on social media, the woman shared her surprising observations after moving to the UK, expressing her astonishment at encountering things she had never seen in the US.
Temilorun, now 24, made the move from Georgia in the US to Cardiff, South Wales, in 2023 for university studies. In a TikTok video, she marveled at the picturesque countryside and mentioned her initial adjustment to spotting “sheep in random places.” She also highlighted the impressive size and tranquility of Wales’ beaches, noting her admiration for them. Additionally, she mentioned the absence of air conditioning, which caught her off guard during the previous summer, and the sight of tractors on open roads, a novelty for her.
However, the most striking discovery for her was a British bakery she had never heard of before arriving in the country. Expressing her newfound love for Greggs, she confessed, “I didn’t understand it at first, but now I’m obsessed.”
In response to her post, one user praised her appreciation for Wales, emphasizing that it is a distinct country, not merely a town in England. Another user recommended using the Greggs app for a better experience, especially considering the unpredictable weather. A third user suggested downloading TooGoodToGo for discounted leftover items from Greggs.
Further comments from users included reminiscing about living in Wales, a recommendation to try Joes ice cream in Swansea, and exploring Welsh delicacies like cockles and laverbread.
Despite not fully embracing Welsh delicacies, the woman expressed her enjoyment of everything Wales offers, stating that Welsh Cakes will always hold a special place in her heart.
