Aldi has announced a reduction in prices for over 900 products in recent months. The supermarket has invested more than £300 million in price cuts since the beginning of 2025, covering a variety of items like fresh produce, bread, dairy, and household essentials.

Speaking on this initiative, Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the importance of value for customers, especially in light of rising inflation. Aldi aims to provide the best value for its customers, with a focus on offering lower prices, particularly as shoppers prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

Which? recently reaffirmed Aldi as the most budget-friendly supermarket. According to the consumer group, a shopping basket of 75 items cost an average of £127.92 at Aldi in August 2025, making it 38p cheaper than the same basket at Lidl with its loyalty scheme. The list included various branded and own-brand items such as Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk, and butter.

In addition to price reductions, Aldi has announced plans to open approximately one new store per week until the end of the year. The supermarket has identified priority locations across the UK for new stores, each ideally accommodating a 20,000 sq ft store with ample parking and good accessibility.

Furthermore, Aldi is seeking locations for its Aldi Local store format in Central London zones one and two, with specific size requirements for trading and ancillary spaces. The supermarket will also close all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to allow colleagues to spend time with loved ones. Extended opening hours will be in place leading up to Christmas to cater to customer needs.
