Aldi has once again secured the title of the most economical supermarket for the month, as per the latest price analysis by Which?. The comparison involved 89 items, with Aldi averaging at £161.56 throughout February. Following closely was Lidl at £162.75, just £1.19 more expensive. Asda claimed the third spot at £181.06, with Tesco and its Clubcard trailing at £181.58.

The item list comprised a mix of branded and own-brand products such as Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk, and butter. For a smaller selection of items, Waitrose emerged as the priciest supermarket this month, with an average total of £217.02, a notable £55.46 difference compared to Aldi.

In a separate comparison of 225 items, Tesco stood out as the most budget-friendly choice for Clubcard members, costing £580.35 for the larger shopping list. Without a Clubcard, Tesco’s total rose to £629.25, surpassing Asda by £3.97 (£584.32). Aldi and Lidl were excluded from this comparison due to their smaller product range.

Waitrose retained its position as the most expensive option on average, with the larger shop totaling £650.11, marking a £69.76 variance from Tesco with a Clubcard. The analysis factored in special offer prices and loyalty discounts, excluding multibuys.

Reena Sewraz, Which? Retail Editor, highlighted Aldi’s top ranking and the competitive landscape among discounters, praising Lidl as another excellent choice for cutting grocery expenses. She emphasized the value offered by Tesco’s Clubcard, urging for broader accessibility to these savings. Sewraz underscored the significance of strategic shopping in alleviating financial strain, showcasing potential savings of hundreds of pounds annually.
