Britons are facing strong winds over the upcoming weekend, with weather alerts covering most of England and Wales. The Met Office has issued widespread wind warnings starting from 8pm on Sunday, September 14, until 6pm on Monday, September 15, encompassing southern England, Wales, and the Midlands.
Wind speeds are expected to range from 45-55 mph inland, while coastal and hilly areas may experience gusts of 60-70 mph. Coastal regions in southwest England and Wales will be first hit on Sunday evening, with the winds spreading further inland by Monday morning.
The windy conditions are likely to disrupt travel and may lead to power outages. Delays in road, rail, air, and ferry services are anticipated, with potential impacts on coastal routes and communities due to spray and large waves. The Met Office advises securing loose items like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences to prevent damage.
Residents are urged to check road conditions and transport timetables, as bus and train services could be affected, causing longer journey times. Coastal residents are especially warned to be cautious near cliffs and shoreline due to the risk of strong waves. In case of emergency, they should contact the Coastguard by dialing 999.
The Met Office’s weather outlook for Sunday and Monday indicates wet and windy conditions, with coastal gales in the southwest. Showers are expected to persist on Monday before calming down from Tuesday onwards, with winds easing gradually.
