A woman recorded the terrifying incident on her doorbell camera where her former partner attacked her as she left for work. Rosie Niessen, 28, a prison officer, was ambushed by Simon Scrimshaw, 50, who slashed her throat with a Stanley knife and inflicted severe injuries on her face, neck, and hands. Rosie’s father, Roberto Niessen, a doorman, intervened upon hearing her cries but was also injured in the process.
In January 2024, Scrimshaw was convicted of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm and received a 28-year prison sentence from Nottingham Crown Court. Rosie, now residing in Hucknall and unemployed, recounted the harrowing experience of being assaulted as she left her home.
Rosie’s relationship with Scrimshaw began in 2017 when she was 21, leading to the birth of their daughter. Despite the age difference, she was initially charmed by him. After a tumultuous relationship, Rosie left Scrimshaw in 2022, prompting her to seek a court order to keep him away. On the day of the attack in March 2023, Scrimshaw waited in hiding for Rosie to leave for work, launching the assault as she exited her home.
Following the incident, Scrimshaw was apprehended, charged, and later found guilty after a trial. Rosie, who continues to deal with the physical and emotional aftermath, expressed her struggle with the impact of the attack and her inability to resume work. Despite the challenges, she remains resolute in sharing her story to support other victims of domestic violence and assaults, urging them to stay strong and seek help.
Scrimshaw’s sentencing included a lifetime restraining order preventing him from contacting Rosie. The lasting effects of the attack on Rosie serve as a stark reminder of the trauma caused by such violence.
