The FBI has unveiled a new video showcasing the immediate aftermath of the fatal shooting of prominent conservative figure Charlie Kirk, as the search intensifies for the perpetrator.
During a press briefing on Thursday evening, FBI officials presented the footage, providing insights into the movements of the assailant following the tragic incident that claimed Kirk’s life at Utah Valley University.
After rising from a prone position atop a campus building near where Kirk was speaking, a dark figure was captured swiftly running across the rooftop to flee the scene.
Special Agent Robert Bohls, leading the investigation, narrated the video, detailing how the suspect maneuvered behind a building, descended from the edge, and landed on the ground.
Following a significant fall, the individual, resembling the person of interest in earlier images, was seen crouching before moving off to the right side of the video, leaving crucial evidence at the scene.
Agent Bohls mentioned the presence of palm impressions at the location, indicating potential DNA evidence for analysis, urging the public to take note of the suspect’s distinctive clothing and accessories.
Authorities disclosed the recovery of a rifle with a long-range scope in a wooded area near the crime scene, just a short distance from where Kirk was fatally shot.
Prior to the briefing, law enforcement released new images of the wanted individual moving through a stairwell, emphasizing the need for public assistance in locating the suspect.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox emphasized the importance of community support in tracking down the perpetrator, as the investigation garnered significant public engagement and interview efforts.
Despite a substantial number of leads and interviews, officials did not disclose the suspect’s identity or current whereabouts at the press event.
Following the plea for information, Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the suspect’s location, highlighting the broad scope of the investigation and the diverse range of tips received.
