A man who entered a store thinking he had won €100 (£86) from a scratch card was shocked to discover he had actually won over €100,000 (£86,400).
The customer, who quickly left, walked into the Agora Café bar in Sarmeola di Rubano in Italy’s Padua province on September 1 under the impression that he had won €100.
However, it turned out that the shop owner, Erika Ni, revealed he had actually won €100,000 (£86,515) on the €2 (£1.73) ticket he bought at the end of August.
Erika mentioned that the man, believed to be in his 40s, looked at her in disbelief before leaving the establishment in utter astonishment, although not before celebrating with Erika and other customers in the café bar, as reported by Corriere Del Veneto.
Recalling the remarkable moment, Erika vividly remembered how the man, a familiar face she had known for a while, reacted, according to the Manchester Evening News.
“We are familiar with the winner, he is a regular client. He was taken aback and jokingly asked me if I was kidding when I informed him,” Erika said.
Erika shared that she was so thrilled for the man that she struggled to find the right words to convey the news to him.
“I was so thrilled that I didn’t know how to break it to him,” she stated. “When I revealed that he hadn’t won €100 but actually €100,000, he was in disbelief.”
As for his whereabouts, Erika speculated that he likely treated himself to a vacation with some of the money.
“I believe he went on a trip, treating himself. He mentioned he would bring something back for us too. The entire town is buzzing about it,” she added.
Additionally, il mattino di Padova reported that not only Erika but also friends and patrons at the bar celebrated his stroke of luck.
“We are all elated for him; he is a frequent customer, fond of this place. I promptly provided him with instructions on claiming his prize, as for such amounts, a bank visit is necessary. I think he is already planning something special for himself and his family,” Erika commented.
