Jeffrey Epstein and his former partner Ghislaine Maxwell collaborated to undermine women who intended to expose their sexual misconduct, as revealed by newly uncovered emails.
Maxwell, 63, a close associate of Epstein, has downplayed her ties to the disgraced financier, portraying herself as a former romantic interest turned property manager with no detailed knowledge of his illicit activities. However, she was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021 for recruiting and grooming women for Epstein.
Recent disclosures have shown Maxwell’s increased efforts to distance herself from Epstein, particularly as she seeks favor from the Trump administration. Yet, a set of old emails has surfaced, suggesting her complicity with Epstein in silencing accusers.
Bloomberg News has obtained over 18,000 emails between Epstein and Maxwell, shedding light on their discussions during Epstein’s sex trafficking trial. In 2014, when scrutiny intensified on Maxwell due to allegations by Virginia Giuffre, she reportedly sought compromising information on her accuser from Epstein.
Giuffre later joined a lawsuit against Florida prosecutors, alleging negligence in informing Epstein’s victims about a plea deal. Identified as Jane Doe 3 initially, she accused Maxwell of aiding Epstein in his illegal activities.
Emails reveal Maxwell’s attempts to discredit Giuffre by sharing confidential documents with Epstein. These documents highlighted allegations made by a 15-year-old Giuffre, later dismissed for lack of credibility, which Maxwell exploited to undermine the accuser.
Additionally, the emails detailed Maxwell’s involvement in procuring gifts for Epstein’s associates, including a $35,000 watch for a former Clinton aide and a $71,000 purchase at a Lexus dealership for an Epstein lawyer. Some gifts were intended for teenage girls who later accused Epstein and Maxwell of abuse, implicating Maxwell in the arrangement process.
The correspondence provides further evidence linking Maxwell to Epstein and sheds light on their efforts to manipulate information and discredit accusers.
