Mia O’Brien’s mother has criticized detractors while starting a fresh fundraiser, stating that her daughter has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being detained in a well-known prison in Dubai.

Initially, Danielle McKenna created a GoFundMe page which was removed, and she is now attempting to gather funds to visit her daughter in the UAE. Mia, hailing from Huyton, Merseyside, reportedly was found in possession of 50g of cocaine and received a 25-year jail term following a swift trial. According to her mother, Mia was incarcerated after authorities allegedly discovered £2,500 worth of the illicit drug in a Dubai apartment.

Danielle has now initiated a new fundraising campaign on the Christian platform GiveSendGo after GoFundMe took down her previous appeal.

The original GoFundMe page was removed for violating the platform’s regulations, prompting the mother to share her details on Facebook for another fundraising effort. Recently, Danielle posted her bank information on Facebook and urged individuals to donate directly to her.

In her Facebook post, she mentioned, “I am going to set up my own, as they [GoFundMe] are nitpicking at everything.” She expressed that direct contributions would enable her to retain all the funds without sharing a portion with GoFundMe. She expressed gratitude, stating, “I would just like to thank everyone.”

In a new development, the mother has launched a fresh fundraiser on GiveSendGo named the “Mia Rose fund.” On the webpage, the distraught mother revealed that she has not seen her daughter since her arrest in October.

Danielle appealed, “Hello, as everyone is aware, Mia has received a life sentence in Dubai and is presently in central prison. I am seeking your assistance so that the family can travel to Dubai to visit Mia, as we have not seen her since last October, and it would also assist in covering any other associated costs that may arise. Even a small contribution could make a significant difference. Thank you immensely.”

While sharing the link to the new fundraiser on Facebook, the grieving mother criticized “haters” and those who criticize her, asserting, “This is my daughter, my firstborn and only girl, and I will fight for my children until my last breath.”

She continued, “To all those haters, I hope Karma does not come knocking at your door. Your hurtful comments do not impact my life, so you will not provoke any reaction or response from me. If that is what you seek, perhaps reach out to the Samaritans helpline if you are feeling desolate. Much love to all.”

In the original GoFundMe page, the distressed mother wrote, “Mia has been given a life sentence in Dubai and is now in central prison. As you can imagine, as her mother, I am utterly devastated. I have not seen my daughter since last October.”

She added, “Mia is only 23 years old and has never engaged in wrongdoing. This is a young woman who pursued a law degree at university and regrettably fell in with the wrong crowd, making a grave error for which she is now paying the consequences.”
