A convict previously imprisoned for beheading her mother faced new legal proceedings following a recent violent incident. Jessica Camilleri, infamous for the brutal killing of her mother, continues to exhibit aggressive behavior while incarcerated. She now confronts the possibility of an extended sentence after admitting to assaulting a prison guard once again.
Camilleri, serving a lengthy prison term for the 2019 matricide, was found guilty of manslaughter due to severe mental illness. Despite being acquitted of murder, she inflicted over 100 stab wounds on her mother, Rita, and removed her tongue and eyeballs. Her violent tendencies persist in prison, where she has repeatedly attacked officers, resulting in additional jail time.
Recently appearing in Waverley Local Court, Camilleri faced charges for assaulting prison officials at Long Bay Correctional Centre. This incident marks the fourth time she has been charged with a similar offense since her incarceration. While pleading guilty to assaulting a law enforcement officer causing bodily harm, she denied a similar charge involving another officer.
Previously, Camilleri admitted to assaulting officers in 2022 at Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre, resulting in a 22-month sentence. Additional convictions include a 12-month jail term for a 2023 attack at Dillwynia Correctional Centre and a six-month sentence earlier this year for assaulting a prison officer. Camilleri’s violent behavior, including hair-pulling incidents, has been a recurring issue behind bars.
Scheduled to return to court on October 22, Camilleri’s ongoing legal battles reflect her struggles with confinement.
