Britons are encouraged to check their wallets for potentially valuable rare £5 notes. In 2016, artist Graham Short created 10 special £5 notes with miniature portraits, each valued at £50,000.

The initial set featured four notes with an engraving of Jane Austen, released in 2017 to commemorate the author’s 200th death anniversary. While three notes were found, one note with the serial number AM32 885554 remains unclaimed after its last sighting in Melton Mowbray.

Subsequently, six notes featuring Harry Kane were introduced, potentially worth over £20,000 each. The idea for the Kane notes stemmed from his exceptional performance during England’s World Cup campaign, where he secured the Golden Boot for top scoring.

Short created six Harry Kane notes, one for the player, one for the Football Association, and four for circulation across the UK and Ireland. Despite being spent in various locations, none of the Harry Kane notes have been recovered yet.

These rare £5 notes could fetch up to £20,000, attracting significant interest from collectors hoping to secure a valuable asset. Notably, specific serial numbers such as ‘AA01’ and ‘AK47’ have gained attention, with some notes listed for as much as £160,000 online.
