Coronation Street actress Maureen Lipman, 79, is set to marry for the second time to her fiancé David Turner, also 79, whom she proposed to on a train. Maureen, known for her role as Evelyn Plummer on the show, is entering into her second marriage after being previously married to Coronation Street writer Jack Rosenthal.

Jack and Maureen married in 1974 and shared three decades together until his passing. Maureen, who has been relatively private about her personal life, opened up about Jack’s death in 2004 at the age of 72 due to multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. Reflecting on her losses, she expressed her reliance on work to cope with her grief.

Following Jack’s death, Maureen found companionship with retired computer expert Guido Castra, who sadly succumbed to COVID-19 in 2021 after battling Parkinson’s disease. She recounted the emotional moment of telling Guido it was time to let go, a decision that weighed heavily on her heart.

Starting a new chapter in her life, Maureen revealed her engagement to David last year. Recalling the spontaneous proposal on a train ride home, she shared her excitement about their decision to marry despite their combined age of 156. The engagement coincided with the Jewish festival of Tu B’Av, where women can propose to men, leading to a heartfelt moment between the couple.

Maureen and David shared their joyous news with her children on September 8, which holds significance as it marks the birthday of Maureen’s late husband, Jack. The actress humorously recounted the proposal story, highlighting the unexpected yet heartwarming response from David.
