My Parents Are Aliens, a cherished family show, used to grace our TV screens on CITV back in the day, after school hours, making it hard to believe it aired over two decades ago.
It quickly became a standout children’s program in the early 2000s, delivering plenty of humor as alien parents landed on Earth and adopted three kids into their lively household. Throughout its run, concluding in 2006, the children tried to help their alien foster parents blend in as humans, but chaos seemed to ensue wherever the family went.
Tony Gardner took on the role of the alien dad, Brian, while Barbara Durkin played the mom Sophie until Carla Mendonça took over in the third series. Although the show featured various child actors, most viewers will easily remember Mel, played by Danielle McCormack, Josh by Alex Kew, and Lucy by Charlotte Francis.
Despite being a kids’ show, it cleverly included subtle nods to adult themes that may have gone unnoticed by younger audiences. The former child stars have since matured and undergone significant transformations, with many finding success post-show.
Curious about where the cast is today? Here’s the scoop…
Tony Gardner portrayed Brian from the show’s inception over 20 years ago until its conclusion in 2006, appearing in all seven series. His witty dialogue and portrayal of a parenting alien earned him a special place in fans’ hearts.

Fans were pleasantly surprised when Mendonça joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2021, playing the role of Orla Crawshaw.
