Dan Levy expressed his disapproval of Shane Gillis’s recent remarks on Saturday Night Live, particularly targeting men who found the jokes amusing. During the show, Gillis made derogatory comments about women wearing short shorts at the gym, referring to them as “whores.” Levy, without directly naming Gillis, criticized the use of such language in a Sunday Instagram video.
Levy emphasized that labeling women based on their attire is unacceptable and perpetuates misogynistic attitudes. He stressed that men should not tolerate or support such objectification of women, as it contributes to a culture where women are mistreated and sexually assaulted. Levy highlighted the importance of standing up for women’s dignity and rights to prevent further harm.
The backlash against Gillis’s comments coincides with public outrage over the Cornell 7, a group of men accused of gang rape at an Ivy League frat house in 2024. The case has sparked discussions on consent, accountability, and the societal norms that enable such incidents to occur. Many viewers, including SNL fans, condemned the offensive joke and questioned the approval process behind it, especially given the ongoing conversations around sexual assault.
Shane Gillis, known for his controversial remarks, has faced criticism in the past for his insensitive comments. Despite hosting SNL multiple times, his history of offensive language and jokes has been a subject of scrutiny. In his most recent appearance, Gillis made inappropriate remarks about women’s appearances and made a controversial statement during a sketch, leading to further backlash.
