Prince Albert authorities disclosed that human remains were unearthed on Thursday during the search for a teenager who went missing in June. The collaborative effort involved the city’s public works and fire departments, along with the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue team, leading to the discovery of the body close to the 300 block of 40th Street East.
An autopsy is set for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and ascertain the cause and circumstances of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, shared that the police informed her about the likelihood of the found body being her daughter’s, refraining from further remarks.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, alongside the police’s major crimes and forensic identification units, are jointly engaged in an active investigation into the suspicious death, as stated by the police announcement. Recent developments included a news conference involving the police, the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents, appealing to the public for any information on her whereabouts.
The authorities indicated that Flett was last seen on June 16 or 17 in the vicinity of Marquis Road and Central Avenue near the Northern Lights Casino. Law enforcement officers continue their inquiry at the discovery site, a wooded area near 40th Street, with ongoing traffic restrictions and advisories for the public to avoid the area. Updates on the investigation will be shared as more information becomes accessible.
