Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series, including the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. While IndyCar has a history in Toronto, this will be the first time the race takes place outside the city on a brand-new track layout.

The 3.52-kilometre, 12-turn course will wind through various locations, including the Unionville GO station grounds, York University Markham Campus, and the Markham Pan Am Centre. To facilitate access to the track, attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407 with parking available west of the event grounds.

Metrolinx has increased Stouffville Line services to aid transportation to and from the track. Additionally, York Region Transit will offer more frequent service, and shuttle services will be provided from designated parking lots to the event site.

Residents in Markham have faced inconveniences due to track construction, with road closures impacting parts of Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning. Some roads will remain closed until August 27 for track dismantling.

The main event on Sunday will feature IndyCar racing, with Spaniard Alex Palou leading the points and favored to win. Notable contenders include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talent like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also participate in support series races.

The drivers have expressed excitement and challenges about the new Markham layout, highlighting its differences from the Toronto track. Ticket information for the event is available on the official website, with free access to Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions for Fan Friday attendees who are encouraged to support Make-A-Wish Canada with a donation upon entry.
