Nearly four years ago, Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a routine. At her brother’s suggestion, she channeled her passion for K-pop and the popular boy band, BTS, into creating BTS Army Toronto. This fan club, named after the larger BTS fan base known as the “army,” organizes events and meet-ups that unite fans of the South Korean band.

Despite facing personal tragedy when her brother passed away shortly after founding BTS Army Toronto, Vann, now 43, continued to expand the organization into a vibrant community. The group now boasts hundreds of fans attending events, participating in giveaways and fundraisers, and supporting local Korean businesses.

As BTS prepares for their highly anticipated return to Toronto after over a decade, Vann, along with her 24-year-old son, Jordan Vann, and a dedicated team of around 10 individuals, are gearing up for the upcoming concerts at Rogers Stadium. Vann expressed how the community has not only provided support but has also led to lasting friendships and connections over their shared love for music.

The Arirang World Tour by BTS includes sold-out performances at Rogers Stadium this weekend. With hit songs like “Swim,” “Permission to Dance,” and “Butter,” the K-pop group is set to entertain around 100,000 fans over two nights.

Known for their passionate fandom, BTS enthusiasts have deep knowledge of the band’s history, members, and music catalog. The group’s meaningful lyrics, touching on themes like mental health and self-love, have garnered a devoted following.

Vann highlighted how BTS’s music resonates with fans due to its depth and intentionality, addressing important topics and aiming to make a positive impact in the world. Before this tour, the band took a hiatus as members fulfilled mandatory military service obligations in South Korea.

The Toronto stop is the only Canadian destination on BTS’s global tour, spanning 88 shows across 34 cities in 23 countries until March 2027. BTS’s album “ARIRANG” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S., marking a significant milestone for the group.

As fans eagerly anticipate the Toronto concerts, Vann’s BTS Army Toronto is planning various activities, including a presence at the Toronto Korean Festival and an event near the concert venue for fans to gather and enjoy before the shows. Vann is excited about the unique concert experience at Rogers Stadium and looks forward to witnessing the special connection between BTS and their fans.

The City of Toronto even agreed to temporarily rename a portion of Yonge Street as “BTS Boulevard” in honor of the group’s visit. Excitement is palpable among fans as they eagerly await the concerts and engage in various BTS-related activities around the city.
