Millions of fans of the popular TV series “Downton Abbey” are eagerly awaiting the release of the third and final movie later this month. The movie will continue to follow the story of the Crawley family as they navigate life in the 1930s.
The grand Jacobean estate, known as Highclere Castle, which has been the backdrop for the fictional aristocratic family in the series since its debut in 2010, is the real-life home of the Earls of Carnarvon since 1679.
In her recent book titled “A Year at Highclere: Secrets and Stories from The Real Downton Abbey,” Countess Fiona Carnarvon sheds light on the behind-the-scenes experiences of the family during the 15 years they hosted the cast and crew at their estate.
The upcoming film, “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” set to be released on September 13, will see the return of the main cast, including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, and Michelle Dockery.
Lady Carnarvon, who resides at Highclere with her husband, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon, reminisces about the late Dame Maggie Smith, who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 89, describing her as the brightest star of the show.
Lady Carnarvon recalls a moment when Dame Maggie Smith was unamused during a fire alarm incident at the castle, showcasing the actress’s no-nonsense demeanor.
The book “A Year at Highclere: Secrets and Stories from The Real Downton Abbey” by The Countess of Carnarvon was released on September 4, while the film “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” will hit cinemas on September 12.
