Tommy Fleetwood missed out on £120,000 in prize money following his T12 finish at The Open Championship in 2018. The 34-year-old English golfer is still pursuing his first major victory after placing T16 at Royal Portrush last week.

Fleetwood was not a strong contender at the recent event, finishing with a seven-under par score, while Scottie Scheffler dominated from the start and clinched his first Claret Jug with a four-shot lead.

Despite coming close as the runner-up in 2019, Fleetwood has amassed an impressive career total earnings of £23.1 million from various tournaments, including The Open.

In a bizarre incident, Fleetwood’s winnings from a previous Open tournament were mistakenly transferred to an American man named Thomas Fleetwood, a club professional based in Florida. The confusion arose as Thomas Fleetwood, born in 1959, had participated in the European Senior Tour’s qualifying school multiple times. He expressed his attempts to contact the English golfer to rectify the error.

Both Tommy Fleetwood and Thomas Fleetwood remained bemused by the mix-up, with the PGA Tour star commenting on the incident as an amusing story that he would address promptly.

The European Tour, now known as the DP World Tour, acknowledged the clerical error and assured that the matter would be resolved.

For his recent performance at The Open, Fleetwood is due to receive £137,535 in prize money, hoping for a smoother transaction process this time around.
