A teenager, Keane Mulready-Woods, aged 17, was abducted and horrifically dismembered, leaving a chilling final message for his mother before his brutal gangland murder. The shocking slaying of Keane in 2020 caused widespread shock in Ireland after he was entangled in a drug feud in Drogheda. He was lured to a house on January 12, where he endured brutal torture and was decapitated.
His body parts were disposed of in a sports bag on a footpath in Moatview, with his head, hands, and feet later discovered in a burnt-out car in Dublin. Keane’s murder triggered a series of retaliatory attacks, culminating in the killing of the prime suspect, Robbie Lawlor, who was shot dead while collecting a drug debt. Prior to his disappearance, Keane called his mother, indicating he would be home late and requested taxi fare to be left out for him.
Keane, who had become involved as a drug runner for a local gang, was instructed to return home before nightfall and had been following these directives, as per reports by the Irish Independent. At the time of his death, he was on parole after being convicted of intimidating a local mother regarding her child’s drug debts to the gang.
It is believed that Lawlor targeted Keane due to suspicions that the teenager was implicated in the killing of Lawlor’s brother-in-law, Richie Carberry, in November 2019. Despite initially planning a “punishment beating” over a minor drug debt, Lawlor allegedly escalated to torturing Keane.
An insider revealed to the Irish Sun that “Lawlor was fixated on Mulready-Woods and was determined to end his life, convinced of his involvement in Carberry’s death.” Lawlor’s history included multiple murders and an extensive criminal record before his own demise.
In December, Lawlor was acquitted of attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend’s mother. Shortly after this acquittal, he was attacked outside a gym by an individual linked to one of his alleged murder victims. Lawlor’s rivals stole his gym bag and taunted him by wearing his flip-flops in photos circulated online.
It is widely suspected that Keane was present during this incident, leading Lawlor to allegedly seek revenge. Images shared after Keane’s death included a message indicating retribution for the theft of flip-flops.
In February 2023, Paul Crosby was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in Keane’s murder, while his accomplice, Gerard “Rocky” Cruise, received a seven-year prison term. Another individual, Gerard ‘Ged’ McKenna, admitted to cleaning up the crime scene and disposing of evidence.
In a poignant victim impact statement on behalf of Keane’s mother, Elizabeth, she expressed the profound grief and trauma caused by his barbaric death, stating, “To lose my child, my son, my baby in such a inhuman, brutal manner is devastating.” She added that a part of her died along with Keane, lamenting her inability to protect him.
