Various potential scenarios may unfold regarding the escalation of conflict in Iran in the coming weeks, with none of them offering a path free of further bloodshed. The most extreme possibilities could even lead to prolonged conflict for years.

In his recent address following his assumption of leadership after his father’s demise, Motjaba Khamenei emphasized the call for “revenge” for Iran’s fallen heroes. He also made threats against neighboring countries, indicating Iran’s intentions to seize assets or inflict damage as part of its ongoing regional actions.

Referencing possible compensation for previous strikes, there were implications that Iran might seek reparation from affluent Gulf States by seizing their assets. Additionally, there were mentions of Iran’s readiness to deploy its proxies, like Hezbollah, to expand attacks beyond its borders.

Reports suggest that Motjaba Khamenei has been severely injured, potentially impacting Iran’s calculations on the escalating conflict. By targeting Gulf States aligned with the US, Tehran has played a strategic move that could outweigh the coalition’s resources.

The ongoing conflict, dubbed as Operation Epic Fury by the US and Operation Rising Lion by Israel, has not progressed as planned. Analysts foresee three potential outcomes for the conflict based on assessments by risk analysis company Eigenrac.

The first scenario envisions a ‘controlled degradation leading to negotiated settlement,’ where the US aims to dismantle Iran’s missile and nuclear capabilities within a short timeframe. However, achieving this objective and reaching a ceasefire seems uncertain in the near future.

The second likelihood involves a prolonged conflict characterized by sustained asymmetric pressure from Iran, causing challenges for the US in translating military superiority into desired outcomes. This scenario is deemed the most probable due to Iran’s strategic advantages in drone technology and proxy networks.

The third and most concerning possibility is an ‘Escalation to Regime Change Operations,’ potentially involving ground warfare. If Iran resists capitulation, the US and Israel may resort to deploying troops, leading to significant humanitarian consequences and a protracted conflict across the region.
