Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have officially agreed to a highly anticipated bout. The announcement was made by Saudi Arabian boxing chief Turki Alalsheikh on social media, with Joshua confirming his participation in a multi-fight deal. Alalsheikh expressed excitement for the fight, stating, “To my friends in Great Britain – it’s happening. It’s signed.” Joshua is set to have a warm-up match against Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25.
Fury marked his return to the ring with a victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov after a 16-month hiatus. He disclosed that he had already signed the fight agreement with Joshua, who did not engage in a face-off with him post-match. The potential showdown between Joshua and Fury is scheduled for November, likely to take place at Wembley and be aired on Netflix.
Joshua’s comeback was delayed due to a serious car accident in Nigeria that resulted in the loss of two close friends. The heavyweight champion has been honing his skills in Ukraine alongside champion Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk, who defeated Joshua twice, expressed confidence in Joshua’s abilities, predicting a victory against Fury.
Fury expressed bewilderment at Joshua’s absence for a face-off, citing personal struggles and challenges both fighters have faced. Despite the long wait for the fight, Fury remains eager for the bout, acknowledging uncertainties surrounding its occurrence.
