Traditional adventure activities like bungee jumping and skydiving are taking a backseat for most Brits, who find their thrills in a different kind of adrenaline rush – watching television.

According to a recent survey, a whopping 70% of Brits consider a gripping TV show to be the ultimate shock factor in their lives. Popular series such as “The Traitors,” “Stranger Things,” and “Happy Valley” are top choices for an evening filled with suspenseful entertainment.

Brits also have a soft spot for dramatic soap opera moments, like the iconic scene of Den serving Angie divorce papers on Christmas Day in 1986 from “EastEnders” and the unforgettable “Who shot Phil?” storyline from 2001, along with the shocking tram crash from “Coronation Street.”

The epic series “Game of Thrones” also ranks high among heart-stopping TV shows, with memorable scenes like the Red Wedding massacre leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.

The intensity of watching “The Traitors” seems to have a physical impact on viewers, with 19% of respondents admitting that the Round Table discussions alone raise their heart rate. Additionally, 37% highlight the Traitor vs Traitor showdown as the most pulse-pounding moment of the season.

Not surprisingly, 71% of the surveyed Brits claim that “The Traitors” leaves them more shaken than scripted dramas, and 63% find it challenging to unwind after watching the show.

Telly expert Toby Earle, part of the study conducted by Asda pharmacy, delves into why thrilling TV shows resonate with Brits, triggering excitement and emotional responses.

He explains, “When a TV show immerses you so deeply that you feel as if you are living through the characters’ experiences, and a plot twist affects you as much as it does them, there’s no greater thrill than being engrossed in your favorite show from the comfort of your sofa.

“Heart-racing TV places us right in the midst of the action, leaving us eager to uncover the next chapter. The unpredictability of these shows offers a thrilling and shocking experience. Television has the power to transport us to uncharted territories, and there’s nothing quite like a suspenseful storyline that defies our expectations.

Viewers of “The Traitors” were left breathless when Harry betrayed Mollie in the series finale, and the tense standoff between traitors Rachel and Fiona in the turret this season left everyone speechless according to the survey results.

Faisal Tuddy, Head of Pharmacy at Asda, emphasizes the heart-pounding moments in shows like “The Traitors” that elevate viewers’ heart rates and underscores the importance of heart health. He also mentions the significance of monitoring blood pressure regularly, highlighting Asda’s initiative to offer free blood pressure checks in all their pharmacies.
