A tragic incident unfolded in Switzerland as a bar worker unintentionally triggered a fatal fire during New Year celebrations. The worker, identified as Cyane Panine, allegedly lacked safety training and was unaware of the risks involved. The fire claimed the lives of 40 individuals and left 116 others injured at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana.
The French owners of the bar, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, have been accused of various charges including manslaughter, bodily harm, and arson due to negligence. Panine’s family lawyer, Sophie Haenni, revealed that Panine was not supposed to be serving tables that night but was asked to assist due to high demand. Haenni emphasized that Panine was never informed of the potential danger posed by the ceiling and did not receive any safety instruction.
Haenni asserted that adherence to safety standards and proper inspections could have prevented the tragic outcome, labeling Panine as an innocent victim. The family’s statement highlighted Panine’s dissatisfaction with her working conditions and the lack of empathy from her employers. The family mourns the loss of their beloved daughter and sister, emphasizing the void created by her absence.
In response to the incident, Jessica Moretti faced a travel ban while Jacques Moretti remains in custody for further investigation. Initial reports suggest that the fire was ignited by sparklers coming into contact with soundproof foam lining the ceiling. The situation has raised concerns about safety protocols and oversight in the establishment.
