The individual facing charges in connection with the tragic car accident involving boxer Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident resulted in the fatalities of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, when their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos on December 29. Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, sustained injuries but survived and was hospitalized.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos, and his case has been adjourned to March 13. He was previously in court on January 20, facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless and negligent driving. Kayode, who has not entered a plea, was granted bail of approximately £2,600. Additionally, he is accused of driving without due care and without a valid driver’s license, potentially leading to a life sentence. Prosecutors requested more time to gather evidence.

Joshua narrowly escaped death in the accident and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve. He returned to the UK in early January and is undergoing rehabilitation. Joshua expressed gratitude for the support he received during his recovery, acknowledging the loss of his friends and emphasizing their significant roles in his life.

The heavyweight fighter, who recently defeated Jake Paul in his last professional match, is committed to preserving the legacy of his late friends. He vowed to honor their dreams and legacy through a dedicated system, ensuring their impact continues.
