BT has introduced a new method for internet access that goes beyond simply connecting devices to the web. The company’s latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router is set to launch in UK households soon, offering enhanced connectivity along with additional security features.

Among its features is technology that can automatically detect and alert users to harmful websites before potential online threats like malware can cause damage. Additionally, the router can identify hacking attempts on smart home gadgets such as internet-connected cameras and prevent suspicious activities before they escalate.

Users can monitor any identified threats using the Hub Threat Protect feature within the MyBT app. These enhancements aim to bolster online security for households and proactively address cyber threats.

In addition to security, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance. It supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which extends signal coverage throughout homes and mitigates weak areas with poor connectivity.

Images of the Smart Hub 3 showcase a sleek and minimalist design, featuring a small BT logo at its center. Notably, the router is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 technology rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard seen in some competitor devices, like those from EE.

While Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced reliability, many current devices do not yet support this standard. As a result, Wi-Fi 6 remains more than sufficient for most households and presents a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.

To acquire the new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with potential upgrade options available for existing users.

In the realm of wireless technology, Wi-Fi 6 has improved performance by enhancing speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to its predecessors, Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 takes these advancements further by introducing wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, catering to demands such as gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home configurations.

For most users at present, Wi-Fi 6 serves as an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 offers a more future-proof solution.
