Multiple fire crews were mobilized to tackle a fire incident located between active London railway stations. The London Fire Brigade reported that three fire engines and approximately 15 firefighters responded to a fire on the train tracks between Queen’s Road Peckham and South Bermondsey stations during the evening of Tuesday, January 13.
The firefighters were working to extinguish the fire above arches, according to the brigade. Passengers were evacuated from Queen’s Road Peckham Railway station, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire brigade mentioned that trains in both directions were halted, and the track’s power was shut down to enable the fire crews to access the affected area. The blaze was described as highly visible.
National Rail informed on a social media platform that train services had resumed as scheduled after the fire incident was being handled by the fire brigade between Peckham Rye and Canada Water / London Bridge.
An observer on Reddit noted seeing flashes in the sky and commented, “Must be massive. I could see the flashes in the sky from Stratford.” Additionally, a Reddit user shared a photo of the train track fire between Queen’s Road Peckham and South Bermondsey stations.
Another Reddit user, staying in Canary Wharf, described witnessing continuous flashing lights in the sky and expressed concerns for everyone’s safety.
Fire crews from Greenwich, New Cross, and Old Kent Road fire stations responded to the scene, as confirmed by the London Fire Brigade. The control officers received the initial report of the blaze at 8:49 pm on Tuesday, January 13.
