In the realm of popular TV devices in the UK, Sky Q stands out as a beloved choice. With more than a decade of keeping households entertained, this award-winning box’s standout feature is its ability to save content on its internal hard drive. While still a top contender, Sky Q now faces competition from a new player that offers a significant advantage.
Manhattan’s TV Team has introduced the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, their latest set-top box. Similar to Sky Q, this device utilizes a dish to deliver shows and movies to homes, boasting internal storage for recordings. Users can enjoy a comprehensive interactive TV guide and the convenience of pausing live TV.
What sets the Manhattan S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder apart is its subscription-free model – upon purchase, owners gain access to over 100 TV and radio channels without any additional fees. While premium content like Sky Sports or Sky Cinema is not included, this option provides solid entertainment without the burden of extra costs.
Just like Sky Q, the S4-R allows for recording multiple channels simultaneously and debuts with a 500GB hard drive, offering storage for approximately 300 hours of content. Larger versions of 1TB and 2TB are on the horizon for those requiring more space, providing a similar live TV control experience for pausing and rewinding broadcasts.
Manhattan assures users that the S4-R will feature a user-friendly interface, search functionality, and access to over 60,000 hours of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.
Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing the recording experience with the S4-R, emphasizing its ability to record up to four programs simultaneously – a doubling of the previous limit. He positioned the S4-R as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, offering enhanced flexibility, diverse choices, and a means to avoid expensive monthly bills.
The Manhattan S4-R is set to launch this month and will be stocked by popular retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing commences at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version slated for May at £249.99, and the 2TB model arriving in June at £279.99.
