EE, a BT-owned company offering broadband, TV, and mobile services, has launched an innovative solution to help UK households overcome the challenge of finding something to watch among the multitude of channels and streaming options available. The new feature, Smart Search, is designed to simplify the search process by allowing users to describe what they want to watch using natural language cues such as mood, theme, or plot details. This feature aggregates results from live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps into one convenient location.

In addition to Smart Search, EE has introduced Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that further assists viewers in narrowing down their entertainment choices based on preferences and mood. By answering a few quick questions, customers receive personalized recommendations tailored to their tastes. This feature is particularly beneficial for families looking to streamline their decision-making process when selecting a movie for a Saturday night.

Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, emphasized the user-friendly nature of these new tools, stating that they aim to simplify the viewing experience for households facing content overload. While similar voice search features are available from Sky, EE distinguishes itself as the first pay-TV service in the UK to offer conversational, AI-driven search capabilities.

Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst, highlighted the importance of faster content discovery in enhancing the overall viewing experience, especially in a digital landscape inundated with entertainment options. Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible televisions, with support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices set to follow.
