EDF has launched a program where customers can receive free electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak weekday hours. The initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, requires customers to shift their electricity consumption away from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays to qualify for up to 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday.

Customers with smart meters can participate in the program until February 1. EDF has reported that over 260,000 households have benefited from the Sunday Saver challenge, receiving a total of 17 million free hours of electricity and saving £5.2 million on their bills.

In recent news, EDF has given away 910,536 free hours of electricity to households, with more than 100,000 customers benefiting from eight hours of free electricity over the Christmas period. One customer, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, mentioning how the program has helped her family save on living costs and brought them closer together.

Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, highlighted the program’s importance during winter months when bills are typically high. The Sunday Saver initiative not only helps customers cut costs but also encourages sustainable energy consumption practices.

Customers can monitor their progress in the Sunday Saver challenge through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, where they can track their household’s energy use. Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs, which include five hours of cheaper electricity every night for both homes and cars.
