Anthony Joshua displayed his sportsmanship when initially discussing YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul four years ago. The duo first crossed paths in Dubai three years ago, maintaining a friendly rapport. At the time, Paul was gaining recognition in the boxing world after defeating former UFC champion Anderson Silva and decided to take a break in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Joshua, a British boxer, was in Dubai for training and leisure. During their Dubai encounter, Paul trained with Joshua’s friend Lawrence Okolie and engaged in a game of laser tag with the former champion. A year before meeting in person, Joshua had praised Paul, highlighting that he believed Paul’s entry into boxing without any amateur experience was beneficial for the sport.

Reflecting on their Dubai meeting, Paul expressed gratitude for the positive feedback received from boxing legends such as Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield, and Tyson Fury. The pair is now contemplating a potential fight after Joshua reached out to Paul following the latter’s claim that he could defeat Joshua. Both fighters teased a potential clash in 2026 through social media posts.

Initially, reports suggested the fight might happen towards the end of 2026. However, Paul’s promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, hinted that discussions with Eddie Hearn could expedite the match’s scheduling. Bidarian expressed confidence in the fight happening, citing the evolving skills of Jake Paul and Joshua’s veteran status.

Paul, fresh off a victory against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., aims to stay active and pursue a world title at the earliest opportunity. While a title fight this year seems unlikely due to current standings, Paul’s team is exploring options for his next match, with a preference for facing Badou Jack for a belt. The promoter acknowledged the challenges of securing a title fight this year but remains optimistic about Paul’s future in the sport.
