Police are seeking information following an incident where a woman was targeted for an attempted kidnapping by a man on a city center street. The Criminal Investigation Department of Greater Manchester Police has reached out to the public for assistance regarding the reported incident that occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, between 6:05 am and 6:20 am.
According to authorities, the victim was walking along Central Park Way in Wigan when she was forcibly grabbed and threatened by the suspect, who tried to coerce her to go with him. Despite the terrifying ordeal, the victim managed to break free and find safety, leading the suspect to flee the scene.
The suspect is described as a white male, around 6 feet 1 inch tall, dressed in grey joggers, black trainers, a yellow hi-vis vest, and a black beanie hat. Detective Sergeant Andrew Partington from GMP’s Wigan CID emphasized the seriousness of such incidents and assured the public that their safety is of utmost importance. He stated that thorough investigations are underway with additional patrols in the area to address any concerns.
Authorities are currently assisting the victim and conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter. They urge anyone with information, including potential witnesses or individuals possessing CCTV/dashcam footage related to the incident or the suspect’s identity, to come forward.
