Another individual was shot by ICE in Minneapolis, adding to the city’s distress, with swift efforts to shift blame onto Joe Biden. Recent reports revealed that a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the northern part of the city shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot three times in the head. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that a man attempted to flee from a “targeted traffic stop,” resulting in a car crash and the man fleeing on foot. According to the government, two individuals then attacked the ICE agent with a snow shovel and broom handle, leading to the agent shooting the man in the leg, citing self-defense.
The DHS, led by Trump ally Kristi Noem, managed to shift blame to the former President, who has been out of the political scene for a year and is undergoing cancer treatment. The DHS statement following the shooting highlighted the involvement of an individual released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.
The ongoing efforts by Trump to deflect responsibility onto the ex-President, who is no longer in office, have been widely criticized. Trump supporters have tried to divert attention from the actions of ICE in Minneapolis by targeting political figures such as the Democrat governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the Democrat mayor, Jacob Frey.
The DHS criticized Governor Walz and Mayor Frey for allegedly inciting resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement officers. The statement emphasized the increasing assaults against federal law enforcement officers and condemned the leadership of the governor and mayor as “terrorism.”
Mayor Frey condemned ICE, accusing the agency of causing chaos in Minnesota. The influx of ICE agents into the city has raised concerns among locals, with the Trump administration deploying thousands of additional officers in recent weeks.
Protests erupted following the tragic death of Renee Good, with accusations from Trump and his supporters labeling her a “domestic terrorist.” Bodycam footage released later raised doubts about the claims made by some individuals. Subsequent protests were met with a harsh response from federal agents, using tear gas and pepper balls against frustrated locals.
The attempts to blame Joe Biden for the incidents in Minneapolis, along with the politicization of the tragic events by Trump and his supporters, have further exacerbated tensions in the city.
