If you are a Samsung Galaxy Book owner experiencing critical issues following a recent Windows 11 update, you are not alone. Users have encountered significant problems, including losing access to the essential C drive, hindering file operations and application launches like Microsoft Outlook, Office apps, and specific web browsers.
The affected model numbers include NP750XGJ, NP750XGL, NP754XGJ, NP754XFG, NP754XGK, DM500SGA, DM500TDA, DM500TGA, and DM501SGA. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, confirming reports of Samsung devices losing C drive access post the February 2026 security update (KB5077181) and subsequent updates.
The error message “C: is not accessible – Access denied” restricts file access and application launches, affecting Outlook, Office apps, web browsers, system utilities, and Quick Assist. The problem arises during common actions like accessing files, launching applications, or performing administrative tasks without requiring specific user actions beyond routine operations. Users may face challenges in elevating privileges, uninstalling updates, or collecting logs due to permission failures.
The root cause is believed to be Samsung’s Galaxy Connect app, which enables screen mirroring, file sharing, and data transfer between Galaxy smartphones and Windows PCs. The app has been temporarily removed from the Windows app store while a solution is being developed.
Microsoft stated, “The affected Samsung Galaxy Connect application was temporarily removed from the Microsoft Store to prevent further installations. Samsung has reissued a stable previous version of the application to prevent additional device issues. Recovery options for affected devices are limited, with ongoing evaluation of remediation strategies in collaboration with Microsoft.”
The timeline for a fix remains unclear. If you own a Samsung PC and have not updated to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, it is advisable to delay the update. Users on Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 should refrain from updating until further notice.
