In a tragic incident at a Swiss bar on New Year’s Eve, 40 individuals lost their lives in a fire, including Cyane Panine, a waitress described by the owners as akin to a stepdaughter. The owners of the bar, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, recounted the harrowing events leading up to the disaster. Cyane had been instructed to liven up the atmosphere by placing sparklers in champagne bottles, a routine that escalated into a catastrophic blaze when the sparklers ignited the ceiling’s soundproofing foam.

The ensuing fire caused severe burns to 116 additional individuals, while Mr. Moretti managed to break open a locked door to the basement and discovered Cyane Panine struggling for life amidst a pile of bodies. Investigations revealed that the service door, usually unlocked, had been secured from the inside during the chaos. Mr. Moretti emphasized that they had renovated the bar thoroughly, including the ceiling foam, with no prior issues raised during periodic fire inspections over the years.

Mr. and Mrs. Moretti find themselves facing potential charges of manslaughter and negligence, as they await trial. Despite their efforts to rescue Cyane, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident. The Morettis, who have a deep connection with Cyane, expressed their profound sorrow over her tragic demise. The investigation into the fire and the circumstances surrounding it is ongoing, shedding light on the sequence of events that led to this devastating loss of life.
